Descendants/Descendence

Descendants/Descendece is a sculptural exploration of the way pain, joy, healing, and life, present themselves in the psyche of the black queer body. These themes are ever present in the exploration of my history and culture as they are the emotions and processes that facilitate my transformation as creative being. Utilizing abstraction as a means of representation, I am seeking to engage the fractured image as a mirror for black experience. The depth and material of the piece  create moments of shadow and reflection throughout.

Descendants/Descendece is a reflection of one reality that black bodies exist in, as we are the descendants of many legacies, converging in one vessel, trying to make sense of the pain of our histories, while engaging joy and healing as resistance.
